My first experience with sales was a happy accident. I grew up very close to a golf course, so I figured out if I found some stray golf balls in the surrounding woods, I could collect them and sell them back to the golfers walking up the course finishing their round. I guess I was pretty good at it because I earned enough to buy drinks and fries in the clubhouse all summer long.
While going to university I was a waiter at a popular local restaurant. I quickly realized that this was just another form of selling, in this case myself! By super serving my customers, the tips paid my tuition for the next 3 years.
After graduating, I landed my first real sales job by making cold calls out of the Yellow Pages. Yes, these were pre-internet days. The experience I gained there enable me to move on to land a commission sales career in broadcast sales including radio, TV, newspaper, digital and outdoor advertising. Media sales was the perfect long runway to learn as on any given day I was dealing with owners and managers of many business categories including retail, restaurants, automotive, home services, construction, government, non-profits, charities and NGO's.
I didn't realize it at the time but my natural instinct was to build long term relationships with my customers. Building trust seemed to put me ahead of the curve because I now understood that sales is not about the quick wins. It's about creating value to help that business or organization grow.

The "logo" for the company is my own design, and speaks to my belief that sales is what helps businesses grow. By creating a strong root system, then with care and nourishment, the harvest becomes the reward.
Five years ago I launched Living is Selling. Since then, my services have evolved to meet market needs and to fill gaps that are not being fully served. The one thing that hasn't changed is that the learning never stops.
Sales is the root system that helps business thrive. With care and nourishment, the roots grow strong, the business grows and the harvest is the reward. When you put your customers first and think long term, selling becomes not just rewarding but transformative. I believe that the root and sprout image in the logo I created years ago captures this growth process.
When I'm not working working I'm outdoors biking, hiking or on a photography mission. All the reflection images on my website are my own. The choice of the theme is deliberate too because as we grow it's important to stop and 'reflect' on what got us where we wanted to be.
